Another Fiber class this weekend... 06/23/2010
Hello again from Maybelle Farm. It's Tuesday evening June 21st and its time to catch up on some things happening here. We had a really nice class at the farm this last Saturday June 19th. Cheryl Flett of CherylAvenue taught a wet felting class "Make your own pouch" Everyone had such a nice time and the weather was perfect. We were able to eat lunch outside under the trees and watch the sheep grazing in the pasture. We went to the barn to visit with all the other sheep and see some of the fleeces I have and several of the ones that will be used at this Saturdays class. Saturday June 26th Alison Schantz and Cheryl Flett will teach a class on How to pick out a fleece, skirt it, wash it, card it and prepare it for spinning, wet felting or whatever you want to use it for. This is going to be a wonderful class with a lot packed into a short time. We will be using Cocoa that is a moorit Shetland fleece, Maisie that is a light gray Shetland fleece, Aphrodite that is a beautiful black Shetland fleece and my little Lola Low Rider that is a white Shetland/cross.......... This is going to be certain fiber overload for all of individuals that just love fiber!!!!!! Darcy, Rowan, Declan took me to my nephew Shawn's party on Saturday June 19th. It was such a nice party and Shawn, Dineen,Summer,Greer and Ayden really put on a wonderful picnic/party. It is such a peaceful place and their home is beautiful. I'm so happy for Shawn and his family, and thanks for inviting us. Jonathan helped me today get several pastures mowed. The grass is growing way too fast and the poor sheep cannot even begin to keep up. I cut down lots of thistles in the pastures before Jonathan mowed them. I talked to Amy Cooke today about getting my new Finn sheep, Johnnie Jump Up is the mother and I'm only going to get the little ewe Pansy. They have someone that wants the little ram lamb....whew that will make it alot easier for me. I will be making plans to go meet her around Albany when I can work out the use of a pick-up. I took Rowan and Declan to Little School in Weston,Vt. today and picked them up this afternoon. I will do the same thing again tomorrow and we have an afternoon ice cream date. Rowan had a sleep-over with YaYa ( that's me) last night. She thinks its a real treat to come down here to my house, especially when I go pick her up in her nightgown and bring her home and tuck her in. She was asleep almost as soon as her head hit the pillow. My little white ram lamb Percy is growing and his little horns are really showing up now. He is a little clown and stands up in his pen and reaches out and bops the other sheep on the head with his little hoof. Well, I think that is about all the news from Maybelle Farm for now. Good-night from Maybelle MaMa. Add Comment June News... 06/11/2010
Well here it is Friday evening June 11th and I actually have a few minutes to sit down and write a little bit about whats been happening here at the farm. My tap dance recital went very well and all the children were so cute. It is alot of hard work but so worth it to see all the little ones in their costumes and so excited to perform. The recital was last Friday June 4th and on Saturday June 5th we worked trying to get the farm ready for Sunday's Strolling of the Heifers open farm tour. Late afternoon there was a tornado watch for Windham County, so that sort of stopped all the work. There was heavy rain and wind so I stayed inside. Sunday was the day for the open house. Cheryl Flett and Alison Schantz arrived to do wet felting and spinning demos.......Mid-afternoon, another tornado watch for southern Vt. and it sure was wild! We were upstairs in my fiber studio making wet felted flowers and vines and Alison made a wet felted pouch. We were having so much fun that we barely noticed the terrible weather. Around 3:30 p.m. there was a break in the weather and a very nice family from New York City stopped and had a tour of the farm. They all got to meet Percy, our little white ram lamb and go into the barn to see all the raw fleeces, my skirting table and learn where the wool comes from. They had two very nice daughters that I think are going to sign up for the Fiber Fun Camp. My little Catherine was up on Toby Hill for 6 days so I got to take care of her and have lots of fun planting flowers, checking out the vegetable garden and just enjoying being with her and her daughter Taf. Yesterday (June 10th) I went to East Dover to take care of my two sweet little ladies that are 92 and 94 yrs. old. Poor little Mildred was taken to Bennington hospital Wed. night with congestive heart failure. I spent the day with Bea and we took the little dog for a walk and puttered around the house doing laundry, fixing breakfast and lunch and then she had a nap. I got supper, chores done and fell into bed only to have the phone ring at about 2:30 a.m. "Mom, can you come up now please? Declan is having an Asthma/Croup attack and I need your help"! I got dressed like the Keystone cops and raced up the hill. We ended up taking Declan and Rowan and going to Brattleboro Hospital emergency room. Darcy had given him three nebulizer treatments and ran out of oxygen and he was not getting any better.....WHEWWWWW They gave him prednisone in the E.R. and when we were headed home, he started singing " I'm bringing home a baby bumble bee, won't my Mama be surprised to see"!!!!!!!! They can scare the life out of you one minute and then start singing! WOW, I'm just glad he is doing o.k. today. After that iIt was like trying to keep up with the energizer bunny.......he zoomed around until I was worn out. Well the sun has been shining and everyone is doing o.k. so life is good here at Maybelle Farm. Goodnight from Maybelle MaMa, and oh yes, I'm going to get Rowan to have her Friday night sleepover with YaYa. | AuthorKathleen - Farm Partner, Flock Shepherdess and great storyteller and (occasionally) Darcy - Farm partner, business "manager" and current web designer.
