Hello again from Maybelle Farm.  It's Friday Aug. 10 and all is well.  It's a rainy day but we do need the rain and it will help to cool off the temperature.  Today was the last day of our August Fiber Fun Camp.    Fiber Camp teacher Cheryl Flett and the students had another fun week together. They worked very hard on a large mural that will be entered in the Fiber Craft event at the Deerfield Valley Fair in Wilmington at the end of the month.  Last year our group of fiber students won 1st prize and a blue ribbon for Best in Show.  This has been such a nice group of students and we have even had a students from Georgia and Connecticut!  The classes just keep growing and it really brings me such happiness to see all the students learning so much about the "Fiber World".

We have been working a lot around the farm and getting the barn cleaned out to make room for more hay for this winter!  All the sheep are doing well too.  The Vet will be coming in another week for the CD & T shots/Rabies and Dectomax (wormer) for everyone.  It's always a relief to have this over, but then it's on to the next thing!

We are looking forward to our trip to the Washington County Fair in Greenwich, NY at the end of this month and a couple of fiber events this fall. When we go to the fair we will be stopping at the Battenkill Fiber Mill with some more bags of raw wool.  I'm going to have three bags of Spartacus (lovely gray color) made into yarn.  I want to check out the Adirondack Fiber Fair, which is held at the fairgrounds in Greenwich.  I also plan to take the Fiber Camp mural to the Vermont Sheep & Goat Festival at the Tunbridge Fairgound the last weekend in September.

Well, I have to get back to work here at home.  I actually have a day off from work and have made pickles, a summer squash/zucchini casserole, a cake and pulled pork in the crock pot!  That's all from Maybelle MaMa.

Hello from Maybelle Farm! On Wednesday July 25 we had just  a wonderful day at the Cheese Making Workshop at the Wardsboro Town Hall.  Carol Lake from Dancing Dog Farm in Dublin, N.H. taught a fantastic class.   We learned to make four kinds of cheese using only a gallon of milk and a quart of yogurt.  The first was from plain yogurt called labneh.  She flavored half of the labneh with plain salt to sample with crackers.  The other half she mixed with mint, dill, cucumber, lemon juice and salt.  Both were delicious and everyone enjoyed being able to eat these samples.  Next we did a lemon, honey dessert cheese that I really loved.  You can adjust the amount of lemon juice, lemon zest and honey you add to this to suit your taste.  The next one was a pressed cheese from India called paneer.  You press it into a mold and you cut it in pieces to eat - it is similar in texture to tofu.    You can cut it, roll it in Panko and fry it.   The final cheese we made was a quick and easy ricotta.  As you can tell, everyone had a lot of fun eating our way through this class.  There was also plenty left over for everyone to take home some samples.

Carol does a wonderful job presenting this class and I would strongly recommend anyone with an interest in cheese to sign up for this class.  This was such a great day for me as I have been working so much and haven't really had any down time.  Thank you to everyone that signed up for the class.  Check out the pictures and watch for more upcoming classes.
