Hello again from Maybelle Farm.  Its Thursday evening Sept. 18th,2014 and I'm finally able to sit down and write this blog.  On Tuesday Sept. 16th the Vet came to our house and put down my beautiful Japanese Akita "Lettie".  She was 13 yrs. old and I got her when she was 7 weeks old.  She was my constant companion and stuck to me like a burr.........the silence in the house is incredible.  I keep thinking I hear her and find myself expecting her to walk out of the bedroom!  I am incredibly sad but know it was the right thing to do for her.  Rest in peace my dear sweet Lettie and I hope you are running in a field of flowers,pain free!

Tonight I have my daughter's Golden retriever Kara staying here and she helps us not feel so lonely............its not the same but it helps.  I also had the Vet today to give shots to the lambs, dock Noah's tail and wether Norman and Noah.  Well, when the Vet started to wether Norman, she discovered he has only one testicle and it means surgery........poor little guy.  It seems like September is going to continue to be a tough month.  Not sure what to do but will talk with Darcy.

On Tuesday Sept. 2,  I had to have the Vet come and put down my beautiful little "Lola Low Rider". It always makes me so sad to have to say good-bye to one of my little friends. She was such a sweet little girl that I bought from Kat Smith in 2001.  We called her little Lola Low Rider because her little legs were so short that her tummy would drag in the snow in the winter.  She was born 4/14/01 and came to the farm with Lupine as that year we only had rams born on the farm and wanted some ewes.    Lola has been with Marcus since I had to put down Blake my starter flock ram in 2013 so now Marcus is lonely again.  I am hoping that he will be able to be with Norman and Noah, this year's ram lambs that will be wethered next week.  This is the side of farming that I really don't like.

This morning I had 220 bales of beautiful second cut hay delivered and stacked in the barn.  I think I am now up to about 600 bales.  Hoping to get about 200-300 more to make sure I have enough to get through the winter.  The barn always smells so nice with that wonderful second cut hay!  I sometimes think I might like it as a little salad with salt and vinegar on it!  Well I have to close and go get busy.  So long from Maybelle MaMa.
