I got a phone call on Sunday from someone looking for a ram. He is in Connecticut and has 7 ewes. I gave him a list of names and hopefully he will find a nice, good tempered ram. Its a lot of fun writing to other sheep people and comparing notes. I ordered some roving from a farm in New York state for our fiber of the month club. The package arrived yesterday and its just beautiful finn/cross roving in several shades. Its so soft and creamy that it makes me drool just to hold it in my hands. I can't wait to spin some of it. Amy told me I could pick out whichever color or colors I would like. We wrote back and forth several time yesterday afternoon and evening. I went to her web site and fell in love with her finn sheep. So of course, I asked her "Do you ever sell any of your sheep"? She wrote back that she had a 7 month old lamb named Jonie that she had to sell or she would go for meat............Now, do you think I could let that happen? I wrote back as fast as my fingers could type. "Oh please, don't send her for meat. Please let me buy her"! Well in December, I will be making a trip to outside of Albany, N.Y. to meet Amy and bring Jonie Jump Up home to Maybelle Farm! I'm sooooo excited as she is 7/8 finn and 1/8 cheviot. She has beautiful crimpy black fleece and I can't wait to get her here. She was born May 4th,2009 just 4 days after my little Juliette. Juliette is a coopworth/shetland cross and so she will have a playmate with Jonie coming to the farm. Got to stop writing and go work on more things for the fiber event. This is Baa, Maa,Maa from Maybelle Farm.
Its me again, back to do another blog. Well, there are three more days until the 5th Annual Southern Vermont Fiber Event in Brattleboro, VT. I am frantically working to get everything ready. I'm packaging up roving, needle felting kits, labeling yarn, pricing items, and the list goes on and on. It is such a lot of work but everyone has a great time. I'm very excited about this years raffle and hope we sell a lot of tickets.

This is Baa, Maa,Maa from Maybelle Farm. Here I go with another blog from Maybelle Farm. I got up early with the lovely time change and went to the barn, moved sheep into portable fencing, stopped to see my daughter Darcy and my grandchildren Rowan and Declan. I went with them last night for Halloween. Rowan was Jessie the cowgirl from "Toy Story" and Declan was a Pumpkin in a very warm, cozy one piece suit. We just went to three of my brothers homes and to my sister's. It was a very nice evening and I even got a popcorn ball from my brother Everett.........yummy!
I had an e-mail from my friend Alison and I called her to come play in all the fiber I have in my new Studio work area! Its soooooo exciting to have so much room to work and to open up each one of my large plastic tubs and just be overjoyed at what I find. Alison picked up her fiber of the month that is the Columbia/texel cross lamb's roving. I also gave her some Perendale,a beautiful chocolate Romney/cross roving, Lupine my beautiful black Montedale/Merino/shetland roving, and several others that I can't remember. Alison also brought over her Ashford spinning wheel and we took a picture of her wheel with a large basket of roving, yarn, knitting needles, ashford carding combs,Cotswold locks and more. This picture will go with a press release for our upcoming 5th Annual Southern Vermont Fiber Festival Sat. Nov 21st. Alison then came to my house and we had lunch. She helped me add our fiber event to Ravelry, as I didn't know how to add it to the groups. Oh,oh I'm in trouble now, so many groups to join and it looks like such fun. Next I worked with my husband putting up fencing to keep the sheep away from the barn where the snow comes off the roof. Late afternoon I got out my dye pot and dyed roving for my vending supply. I'm trying to get things ready for Nov. 21st without waiting until the last minute.....like Nov. 20th! Got to go and work on some needlefelting. Goodnight from Maybelle Mama. |
