Thursday evening I went to do chores to find Chloe my beautiful Shetland/Coopworth cross moorit ewe, sick!!!!!! She didn't come to the barn with the rest of the ewes and when she finally came in, she was staggering, shaking and couldn't eat. Her pupils were very dilated so I ran to the house and called the Vet. I'm sure Stephen thought he was talking to Donald Duck.....I was frantic!! He said to give her 5 c.c. of Dexamethazone, 3 c.c. of Thiamine and in two hours give her another 2 c.c. of Thiamine. He said to also worm her so I used Safeguard paste. I also gave her pepto-bismol and some rumen yeast powder in water. I SO did not want to go back to the barn at 10:30 p.m. but I had to give her the shot of Thiamine. When I went out at 10:30 p.m. she was carefully eating some hay. Agathe came Friday morning to help me give her another 2 .c.c of Thiamine and she did seem better. I let her out in the small pasture last night with her mother Juliette and Dulcie. Today I have kept them in just to watch her but she seems O.K.
Friday Agathe, Olivia and Emma Hoos went with me, taking our white van and two dog crates to Wallingford ,VT. First we went to Stonesthrow Farm to see Kat Smith and loaded (Wiggly) now named Opal into one crate. She is a Bluefaced Border-Liecster/Cross 3 month old ewe lamb and is white! Kat gave her a shot of B complex and wormed her with Safeguard. Next we went to Otterknoll Farm to see Chris Davenport and loaded in a little Tunis cross ewe lamb named Omega. She is a very sweet little ewe with such a little pathetic bleat. Opal is very, VERY loud! Oh yes, we had lunch in Manchester at Zoe's Deli, and McDonald's for Olivia!
Yesterday Austin helped me move portable fencing for the Moms and lambs so they have some good eating. Today things seem to be O.K. for the moment. Jonathan is taking me to Tractor Supply and out to lunch. Darcy,Todd, Declan and Rowan are on their way to Todd's mother's in New York. I'm sure Kara, their dog, will be thrilled to see them. They will be back at the farm tomorrow and I will be soooooooooo glad to not have to handle everything by myself. So-long from Maybelle MaMa
