We were both completely surprised when Todd called at 7:45 with the news that Stephen had been able to deliver the lambs without a c-section and that they were BOTH ALIVE!! Not at all what we expected. Both little rams were up and nursing and doing amazingly well considering all they had been through. Todd loaded them back up and was back home with everyone by mid morning. So now we have Cornelius (Corny) who is about the loudest little lamb you've ever heard, and Cedric in residence at Maybelle Farm. All are doing well - including Aphrodite. We are still waiting for our Arly to produce her lambs - she just seems to want to eat, and eat... and then eat some more!
We've had another intense week as we headed into our second week of lambing. On top of this my mother, Kathleen, has been very sick with a terrible cold, but still plugging along taking care of the sheep and new babies. In the wee hours of Thursday morning our ewe Aphrodite, who had been in labor since Wednesday evening, had still not been able to have her lambs. Todd and I (Darcy) with the help of my Uncle Everett examined her to see if the lambs were in the correct position. Todd could feel a nose and a leg, but could also feel the other front leg was in the wrong position and could not reposition it so she could deliver her lambs. After a number of calls to our Vet Stephen Major, we decided we needed to take her for a potential c-section. This was a first for us - having to take a ewe in for delivery! These were to be our 60th lambs - so figured fate thought we hadn't done this yet, so let's try something new! AHHH! So we loaded our poor Aphrodite up and Todd headed to West Chesterfield to meet Stephen at 7am. My mother and I both assumed the lambs would not make it, or Aphrodite either.

What a great job you've done with this website. Adorable pictures, too, and I hope the rest of the lambs fare well, too. Keep the pics coming - Thank you. Comments are closed.
