Well yesterday was just about the wildest day here on our hill that I can ever remember and I grew up here. It snowed most of Sunday night and the wind was just plain fierce all day yesterday. When Todd got home from work, he fired up the snow blower and made a path to the barn. Darcy came out and helped me move Luther (my big moort ram) and his three wether buddies to the barn. I can tell you, we didn't have to ask them twice to go!!!!!!
I shut everyone in last night as the wind chill was suppose to be about -10 degrees. They are all trapped in the barn so this morning my grandson Austin came to the barn and shoveled a small path so the girls could at least go out and turn around. There are 4-5 faces in the barn door all looking at each other like "You go out, nope I'm not going out, you go out"!!!!! This afternoon the sun is out and the wind is not quite so bad and the snow is melting on the blacktop where the town boys (road crew) put down salt.
I was so cold last night and tired of the snow, I could have cried. When I went to the barn yesterday morning, the town boys had plowed a snowbank at high as my hips so I had to crawl over that and then wallow to the barn. This is pretty easy for a young, in shape person but for a overly plump, out of shape old farmgirl....I was huffin and wheezin like a old steam machine that needed lots of work! O.K. I make it to the barn and then its the trip back. Oh yes, I had to walk up the hill and back home because I couldn't get my car out. I also walked up in the afternoon to help Darcy move the boys to the barn. I did however do chores about 3 p.m. so I didn't have to go back to the barn a third time.
I am certainly convinced that the stork was drunk when he dropped me off in Vermont. I definitely know I'm supposed to be in Bermuda! I'm sure I could raise something there, sand fleas should be easy! Well Austin and I are taking my dog for a walk and are going to search for the Kabota tractor keys that my niece Debbie lost in the snowstorm yesterday. I have made some really tasty soft molasses cookies and some hot cross buns to take to work with me tomorrow. I will be working for the Tasha Tudor family now on Wednesdays and I will cook to take things for lunch. I will be making a crock-pot of soup next so I have to sign off and go get busy.
So-long from Maybelle Mama
