On Aug. 25th Darcy headed back to school with her two in-service days on the 25th and 26th. I took care of Rowan and Declan both of those days. School started for Rowan and Declan on Aug. 27th. I will be back on farm duty to take care of the sheep once school starts. We have 44 sheep and I desperately need to sell some sheep and cut down that number(44)!!!! I have 300 bales of 1st cut hay in the barn and 300 more bales of 2nd cut coming. I looked up last year and I went through 1100 bales of hay! That is a huge amount of hay and a lot of money. The hay we have so been able to find this year is better quality than some we used last year, which will hopefully cut down on how much we use. We are also putting in more stall feeders in the barn to cut down on hay waste.
I went with Darcy, Rowan and Declan to Storyland earlier this month and we had a very nice time. It was only for an overnight but we did have a nice time. That was my vacation for the year! Darcy took Rowan to Boston for her first Red Sox game in mid August and they had a great day. Declan stayed with PaPa until I got home from work. Austin came up to play and Declan was thrilled to spend the day with his cousin. Our garden is giving us beautiful summer squash, zucchini, green beans, tomatoes, cucumbers and I have two very large pumpkins.
We have had beautiful weather this month and its wonderful to know so much is done at the farm. I feel like we are really getting ready for fall and winter. I will be putting some of my needle felting items at the Newfane Library with other fiber artists for the month of September. I've been washing wool, dyeing wool and will be making kits and getting ready to teach a fiber class in September. Well I have to close for now and go to the barn. So-long from Maybelle MaMa
