This was written last month, but am just posting it today.
November 18, 2013: I've finished chores,supper and have time to sit down and write another blog. It has been very cold the last three morning and I have to now carry water to 5 pastures. The water was frozen in the buckets, so I had to thaw out the ice. It's just about the end of grazing so I've started feeding out hay morning and night! UGH! I was hoping to have them graze until the end of November, but that was wishful thinking on my part.
My very sweet, special sheep Arwyn has been very sick. This is something she goes through from time to time, but this time it has been really bad. Stephen, our Vet, came and said he thought is was a stomach ulcer. I now have shots of Protonix and B complex and fed her morning and night an alfalfa powder/rumen starter/electrolytes mix. On the fouth day I thought she was just not doing well and talked to Stephen, he said to give her a few more days. She started on Thursday with the shots/alfalfa mix and by Tuesday she started to eat. Tuesday morning I put some hay in her stall and walked away, not wanting to see her just look at the hay and not be able to eat. I went to feed some of the other sheep and came back to see her eating hay. I sat down on the bottom stair and cried! She is now eating cracked corn/grain mix and grazing, eating hay and minerals. I cannot tell you how happy I am when I walk into the upstairs of the barn in the morning and hear Arwyn calling from downstairs to me! I also cannot tell you how much I appreciate having Stephen Major as our Vet. He certainly knows sheep and has helped me out many, MANY times.
My grandson Austin helped me both last Saturday and Sunday getting everything done before the snow arrives. My son David moved sheds into pastures closer to the barn for winter. He also used our big Mahindra tractor and cleared the manure away from the barn. Heater buckets are in the barn, portable fences are rolled up and will be stored upstairs in the barn. Its always a nice feeling to have things ready before snow arrives. I have to have one more delivery of hay and then "bring on the cold/snow/and winter"!
I'm putting pictures of my fiber studio with my little Christmas area. I'm going to list some of the Santas, elves and kits for Christmas on my Etsy shop. I just have to find the time to get the listing put on Etsy. I made some wonderful mincemeat today and will be making pies for the Turkey Supper this Saturday night in Stratton. I have fun working at the supper and getting to see lots of people that I don't see very often. I guess thats all for now so I will say Good-night from Maybelle MaMa.
