It's Wed. May 11th, 2011 and I feel like I'm back among the living again! Lambing at Maybelle Farm is finally over and I actually had a whole night of sleep last night! My poor body is in shock and is having a time adjusting to rest again. Arly, my beautiful white ewe had her lambs Monday evening about 10 p.m. and gave me two little white ram lambs! That gives me a total of 6 ram lambs and 2 little ewe lambs. I now have 39 sheep at Maybelle Farm and "Oh my goodness, what am I doing with that many sheep"! I'm hopeful that because the "Shetland Sheep" that is "featured" this year at the Vermont Sheep Festival in Tunbridge this coming Oct. that I will be able to sell some of them. That also means, "Oh no, how do I part with my babies"! The weather is beautiful, the grass is so green and growing way too fast. Its just the very best time of year. I love when all the trees start to leaf out and the spring flowers have blossomed and everything is just a carpet of color. We will put more videos of the lambs as soon as we can move them outside. I am holding Aphrodite inside for another few days, just because she lost a lot of blood lambing and I don't want the flies to be after her either. I will put Tinka out and we can video her and her lambs Chet and Clementine.
I just got back from my Tasha Tudor Friends and Family Tour. It was such a nice morning there and we ate lunch, shopped at the Rookery and came home. My sister-in-law Katherine and my friend Melinda went with me and we took the scenic route through South Wardsboro, East Dover, onto Higley Hill and into Marlboro. It was just a beautiful day and the flowers and tour were simply wonderful. I really needed just a day to relax and play. Tomorrow I will get back to the real world and work on all the things that need to be done here at the farm. I'm going to Greenwich,N.Y. on Monday to pick up my roving and yarn from the Battenkill Fiber Mill and I will also take more raw wool to have more yarn made.
Well, life is good at Maybelle Farm so I think I will go take a nap and then its back to work.
So-long from Maybelle MaMa
